Cycling Physical fitness Cycling Physiological aspects
This was written early in my tenure as editor of Bicycle Magazine. Though leisure cycling was popular at this time with Schwinn filling neighborhood garages with mainly kid’s bikes and European bike racing finding a home in the U.S., there was little information available to the general public about specific ways to use the bike as the center of an exercise regimen. At the time running was much more popular than cycling because it had been successfully marketed as an upscale, fitness activity equally appealing to men and women. Bicycling Magazine and The Complete Bicycle Fitness Book attempted to do the same for cycling.
