About the Book
This was my first book of poetry based on four years in the U.S. Navy, most of them in the South China Sea and the Tonkin Gulf during the run-up to the Vietnam War. The book focuses on my years aboard an ammunition ship including, dangerous encounters, sexual exploitation, punishing typhoons and the tense racial climate on board at the time. The book explores the ship as microcosm of the world and the violence in man’s soul.
